MILAN, Italy (June 16, 2010)—Original equipment passenger tire sales jumped 89 percent in May from the corresponding month in 2009 in the NAFTA region, according to data published by Pirelli S.p.A.
For the first five months, OE sales grew 69 percent compared to a year earlier. In the replacement sector, the NAFTA region saw an increase of 11 percent in May and 10 percent in the year to date.
Pirelli also report aftermarket tire sales in Japan increased 18 percent in May and by 11 percent in the year-to-date period compared to 2009. Pirelli did not give OE sales data for Japan.
The company published data European OE data, adding to the replacement data published a few days ago. The data appears to show that the OE sales boom is slowing, with sales up by 8 percent in the month of May compared with a 25 percent increase in the year to date.
