MUSCATINE, Iowa (June 15, 2010)—Bridgestone Bandag Tire Solutions has gained Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) SmartWay Transport Partnership verification for the recently introduced Greatec R125 wide-base trailer radial.
BBTS, a division of Bridgestone Americas, said the Greatec 125 is ideal for fleets running California Air Resources Board-compliant vehicles, since all 2011 model-year trailers must use SmartWay-verified low rolling-resistance tires in order to run in California.
This is the third Greatec radial, and 12th Bridgestone or Firestone truck radial, to be SmartWay verified, according to the EPA's database. The Greatec 125 replaces the Greatec Trailer in the Bridgestone Bandag portfolio
“Greatec R125 is an excellent choice for fleets who prefer to use wide-base single trailer tires to increase revenue-producing payload,” said Chris Hoffman, BBTS truck/bus radial and retread product marketing manager. “Its design also promotes superior rolling resistance, making it an excellent choice for those participating in the SmartWay transportation partnership.
Created in 2004, the SmartWay program is a long-term initiative for truck fleets of all sizes and purpose to improve fuel economy and reduce emissions. Among other things, the program recommends OE and replacement tires for optimum fuel efficiency. To be certified for the SmartWay program, tires must achieve at least 3-percent better fuel economy than the average “best-selling” new tire in its category.
