WASHINGTON (June 7, 2010)—Major tire manufacturers including Goodyear, Bridgestone/Firestone, Pirelli Tire North America and Yokohama Tire Corp. are joining with the Rubber Manufacturers Association this week to celebrate National Tire Safety Week.
Goodyear, Bridgestone/Firestone, Pirelli and Yokohama, among others, issued press releases urging participation in the event, which seeks to educate consumers about the proper care and maintenance of tires.
To celebrate the week, Goodyear sent its three blimps—each docked in a different part of the U.S.—aloft with special day and night messages telling consumers about the importance of good tire care. The blimps are Spirit of America, docked in Carson, Calif.; Spirit of Goodyear, docked in Akron; and Spirit of Innovation, docked in Pompano Beach, Calif.
Yokohama announced the release of a new series of short educational videos on its website and on YouTube discussing proper tire care and maintenance. The first video features off-road racing champion and TV commentator Cameron Steele, Yokohama said.
Last year nearly 20,000 tire and auto retailers participated in National Tire Safety Week, and the RMA expects to top that number this year. An abbreviated list of the RMA's partners in the event include AAA, the Tire Industry Association, Automotive Service Excellent (ASE) and most of the major tire dealership chains and mass marketers in the U.S.
