ESSEN, Germany (June 3, 2010)—Apollo Tyres Ltd. is scaling back plans to expand annual capacity at its Vredestein Banden plant in the Netherlands and instead will make up to 1 million Vredestein-brand tires a year at its new passenger tire plant in Chennai, India, to help meet demand.
Apollo earlier this year said it intended to double the size of Vredestein's plant in Enschede, Netherlands, to 10 million units a year, but the Kerala, India-based company has revised that to a 20-percent boost to 6 million units, with additional output coming from the new Chennai factory.
Vredestein Banden CEO Rob Oudshoorn confirmed the plans at a reception during the Reifen industry trade show in Essen, where Apollo disclosed plans for the Apollo brand in Europe.
