ROME, Ga. (May 27, 2010)—Saleen Performance Vehicles has selected Pirelli Tire North America Inc.'s P Zero ultra-high-performance tires to be fitted on its 2011 SMS 302 Mustang, an all-new line of tuned high-performance cars.
The SMS Mustang will be offered in two versions: the SMS 302 4V with a normally aspirated 5.0-liter engine and the SMS 302 SC, which will use Saleen's patented SMS 296 Supercharger. Both models will be fitted with P Zero tires in size 275/35ZR20 on the front and 275/40ZR20 on the rear, Pirelli said.
The 302 4V features a V8 engine generating more than 440 horsepower and 400 foot-pounds of torque, enabling the vehicle to hit 60 mph from a dead stop in 4.5 seconds. The 302 SC, which is capable of a 4.3-second 0-60 mph time, pumps out more than 535 horsepower and 450 foot-pounds of torque.
The SMS 302 Mustang represents the second in a trio of Saleen SMS American supercars, following the successful launch of its 2010 SMS 570 Challenger last year. The company's SMS 620 Camaro is slated to launch later this year.
