SACRAMENTO (April 21, 2010)—The Car Care Council and CalRecycle, California's leading authority on recycling and waste reduction, are joining forces to promote California's “Just Check It” tire sustainability program, the Car Care Council said.
“Just Check It” is designed to inform consumers about the benefits of proper tire inflation and maintenance.
CalRecycle will host the debut of “Just Check It” at a special event at the State Capitol Southeast Parklands in Sacramento April 22. The date coincides both with Earth Day and with National Car Care Month, and the new program is a perfect fit with the Car Care Council's “Be Car Care Aware” program, the council said.
The Rubber Manufacturers Association will have a booth at the event in Sacramento and hand out both free tire gauges and “Be Tire Smart—Play Your PART” tire care brochures, the RMA said.
Teaching the public about proper tire inflation and maintenance is a perfect “green” activity for Earth Day, the RMA said. It quoted federal government statistics showing that maintaining proper air inflation in your tires can improve vehicle fuel efficiency by 3.3 percent, saving consumers on the average about eight cents per gallon at the pump.
