LUDWIGSHAFEN, Germany (April 12, 2010)—BASF S.E. is building polyurethane systems houses, in Chongqing, China, and Cartagena, Colombia, to meet growing demand from construction, appliance, transport and footwear applications.
The unit in Chongqing will be in the same location as the German chemical company's planned 400,000 metric ton per year methylene diisocyanate plant, BASF said.
BASF said it expects the Chongqing systems house to start operations in 2012, working closely with two current systems houses and development centers in Shanghai and Nansha, China. The systems house in Cartagena will serve markets in Colombia, Venezuela and Ecuador, the BASF statement continued.
The company expects the market for PU systems in the Andean region to grow in the coming decade by 6 percent
