GREENVILLE, S.C. (April 5, 2010)—Specialty Tires of America Inc. has been recognized by Michelin North America Inc. with Michelin's 2009 Tire Privatization Supplier Award.
The honor validates Specialty Tires' superior supplier performance in support of Michelin's first three years of their contract with the U.S. Department of Defense. The department in January 2007 selected Michelin to manage its tire program, with the 10-year, $1.7 billion contract requiring Michelin to identify, procure and deliver tires for every military wheeled vehicle.
Specialty Tires was recognized for providing the largest number of varying types and sizes of tires for the Department of Defense and also for the outstanding quality of their products, said James Griese, Michelin director of military tire sales.
Specialty Tires is one of Greenville-based Michelin's most important partners in the success of the program and is a “reliable, professional, and customer oriented operation,” he said.
The subsidiary of Greenville, Pa.-based Polymer Enterprises Inc. operates tire facilities in Indiana, Pa., and Unicoi, Tenn.
