MIDLAND, Mich. (March 30, 2010)—Christopher D. Pappas, CEO of Nova Chemicals and onetime senior executive at DuPont Dow Elastomers L.L.C., has been appointed president and CEO of the former Styron Division of Dow Chemical Co.
Pappas will lead the company after its sale by Dow Chemical to STY Acquisitions Corp., an affiliate of Bain Capital Partners, according to Dow Chemical and Bain. The deal is expected to close in June.
Pappas, 54, has more than 30 years of experience in the chemicals and polymer industries. He started his career at Dow Chemical in 1978 and worked there through 1995, moved to DuPont Dow Elastomers in 1996, and joined Nova in 2000. He succeeds Mark Remmert, who has been Styron Division CEO since last July.
Styron produces polybutadiene and SBR synthetic rubber, emulsion polymers, polystyrene and styrenic polymers and polycarbonate and engineered compounds.
