RENO, Nev. (March 11, 2010)—OTR tire and mining industry veterans Michael McCarley and David Travis have set up a company offering tire maintenance consultancy services to mining operations with a promise to cut those enterprises' tire-related costs by at least 20 percent.
The partners—each with more than a quarter century of experience in his respective field—established OTR Tire Supply L.L.C. recently, formalizing a consultancy the pair have operated since 2008, according to McCarley, a tire industry veteran of more than 30 years.
The partners' customer base is principally outside the U.S., he said, with an emphasis on Latin America.
The partners assess each mine's operations and suggest ways to optimize tire performance, McCarley said.
This process—which the company bills as its proprietary Tire Asset Management system—includes reviewing a mine's equipment and suggesting optimal tire choices, training the mine's staff to improve their tire maintenance skills, and surveying the mine's infrastructure to reduce hazards that could reduce tire life, he said.
OTR Tire Supply does not supply tires or other components directly, but it helps mining operators locate sources of tires it recommends, McCarley said.
“Tire operating conditions and maintenance practices have as much to do with tire performance as the design of the tire itself,” McCarley said. “Utilizing a staff of OTR tire professionals and experienced mining engineers, OTR Tire Supply assesses each individual mine and delivers a tire service and maintenance system that optimizes tire performance and delivers significant cost savings directly to the bottom line.”
