LANSING, Mich. (Feb. 24, 2010)—The Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Environment has awarded 23 grants worth $967,152 to clean up scrap tire piles across the state.
DNRE said the cleanup projects funded by the grants will remove more than 960,000 passenger tire equivalents from the Michigan landscape. Grantees have until Aug. 31 to remove and process the tires according to DNRE-approved plans.
The grants ranged in size from $370,000 for Holloway Sand & Gravel of Jackson, Mich., to $1,325 for Russell and Diane Sitts of Gratiot, Mich.
