AKRON (Feb. 16, 2010)—British engineering concern Ricardo P.L.C. has selected Goodyear as the exclusive supplier of fuel-efficient military tires for the U.S. Army Fuel Efficient Ground Vehicle Demonstrator program.
Ricardo selected Goodyear from among a group of several other military tire makers to develop a new class of tires that improve fuel efficiency without a significant impact on durability and tread life. Goodyear said it will develop tires incorporating its Fuel Max Technology, developed for commercial truck tires.
Launched in 2008 by the U.S. Army's Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center, the FED program was established to enhance military vehicle technology, reduce fuel consumption on the battlefield and reduce U.S. dependence on oil.
