HOLLAND, N.Y. (Jan. 21, 2010)—Staroba Plastics Inc. has purchased the EcoStar roofing materials unit from Carlisle Cos. Inc., bringing the business back to where it was formed in the late 1990s.
The deal was effective Jan. 1. The EcoStar business, known for its premium roofing tiles manufactured from recycled rubber and plastic, will be known as EcoStar L.L.C.
Under Holland, N.Y.-based Staroba, EcoStar L.L.C. will have full control of all aspects of manufacturing, marketing and selling the EcoStar line of products and will be ideally positioned to consolidate its position as North America's leading supplier of synthetic roofing tiles, the company said in a release.
The first synthetic slate tiles—made using a Staroba-developed recycled rubber and plastic formulation called Starloy—were sold in the U.S. in 1996, with EcoStar launched nationwide in 1998. In 2001, the Carlisle Syntec Inc. roofing subsidiary purchased the sales and marketing portion of EcoStar, eventually establishing it as part of Carlisle's residential roofing business.
