SINGAPORE (Jan. 18, 2010)—Lanxess A.G. said it will break ground for a butyl plant in Singapore in May and bring it on stream in the first quarter of 2013.
The firm originally planned to start the project this month, but pushed it back twice. Now Lanxess again has moved up the opening date, and said doing so will allow it to serve growing demand for tires in China and India.
More than half the firm's butyl rubber sales are generated in Asia, which prompted the company to announce it will relocate its global headquarters for the business to Singapore from Fribourg, Switzerland.
The office initially will employ 35, and include all management functions for the butyl business, including marketing, controlling and supply chain.
