LONDON (Nov. 30, 2009)—Pirelli & C. S.p.A. unveiled the 2010 Pirelli calendar—its 37th edition—during an event at Old Billingsgate in London.
The calendar features 30 images shot in Brazil by American photographer Terry Richardson, whose straightforward style of photography, according to Pirelli, depicts “the sunny side of femininity” by portraying “figures without frills, removed from complicated and artificial contexts set by fashion trends.” The company added that the calendar represents a “return to the natural, authentic atmospheres and images of the 1960s and 1970s.”
“My technique is the absence of technique,” said Richardson, who shoots with only a camera and without assistants. “The lens is my eye, my charisma, my ability to capture moments of truth, whatever they may be, picture angles, use of color, light, scenery—these have always been the essential aspects of my photographic art.”
The calendar features 11 models: Catherine McNeil, Abbey Lee Kershaw and Miranda Kerr of Australia; Eniko Mihalik of Hungary; Marloes Horst of the Netherlands; Lily Cole, Daisy Lowe and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley of the United Kingdom; Georgina Stojilijkovic of Serbia; and two Brazilian natives, Gracie Carvalho and Ana Beatriz Barros.
