COLOGNE, Germany (Nov. 25, 2009)—Solutia Inc. said it is discontinuing its production of rubber accelerators at a plant in Cologne, and Taminco N.V. is acquiring the business.
Solutia will continue to produce tetramethylthiuram disulphide and tetraethylthiuram disulphide at the site during a transition period, and Taminco is purchasing the assets, contracts and commercial obligations relating to the chemicals. The deal is expected to close by March 2010.
Taminco said it will transfer production of TMTD and TETD to its factory in Ghent, Belgium.
Solutia will continue to produce Perkacit DPTT. The company said it could no longer be cost-competitive globally with TMTD and TETD.
