ST. LOUIS (Oct. 15, 2009)—Solutia Inc. said it plans to reopen its Crystex insoluble sulfur plant in Monongahela, Pa., by early November because demand for the product has improved significantly since the first quarter of the year.
Solutia idled the Flexsys America facility in June after a dramatic drop in product demand. The insoluble sulfur prevents sulfur migration and is used in radial tire manufacturing.
“We look forward to welcoming back our employees and serving our customers,” said Greta Senn, vice president of Crystex. “Restarting the plant will continue to ensure a steady and reliable supply of insoluble sulfur to our tire customers worldwide.”
