TAIPEI, Taiwan (Sept. 16, 2009)—Federal Corp. said it plans to eliminate the use of high-aromatic oils in the manufacturing of its tires.
High-aromatic oils are regarded as hazardous substances that can be harmful to both humans and the environment, Taiwan-based Federal said. The tire maker plans to replace these toxic oils with clean alternatives at its plants in Chungli, Taiwan, and Jiangxi, China.
Federal said the implementation of this environmental initiative is in compliance with the European Union's REACH (registration, evaluation, authorization and restriction of chemicals) directive.
As part of its effort, the company released a new icon on its tire labels that says, “HA (high-aromatic) Oil Free.”
