GREENVILLE, S.C. (July 28, 2009)—Michelin North America Inc. and Harley-Davidson Inc. have unveiled the Michelin Scorcher 31 tire, which will be OE for four 2010 Harley-Davidson Dyna models.
The new tire—Michelin's first OE fitment with Harley-Davidson—was introduced July 25 at the Harley-Davidson summer dealer meeting in Denver. It carries both companies' trademarks on its sidewalls and the signature Harley-Davidson logo carved into the shoulder.
The tire, which will be available in 17- and 19-inch sizes, will fit these motorcycles: the 2010 Harley-Davidson Dyna Super Glide, Super Glide Custom, Street Bob and Low Rider models. The Scorcher tire also can be fitted on a variety of 2006-2009 Dyna models.
Michelin said its deep-cut tread design improves grip and water evacuation capability. Grip performance, particularly on wet pavement, is also enhanced by the tire's rubber compounds, which use the latest generation of Michelin synthetic polymers.
The Scorcher is designed for high mileage, a byproduct of premium components used in Michelin's rubber compounds and Michelin's manufacturing process, according to the tire maker.
Michelin said its research and development teams used aramid belts under the rear tread to stabilize the contact patch. In addition, the carcass plies are made from polyester to provide ride comfort.
