DALLAS (July 10, 2009)—Liberty Tire Recycling L.L.C., which claims to be the largest tire recycling firm in the U.S., has acquired tire disposal firm Able Tire Co. L.L.C. for an undisclosed amount.
The merger of Liberty Tire and Able Tire represents a partnership in the Texas and Oklahoma scrap tire markets, according to the March Group, the firm that coordinated the sale.
Able Tire has operations in Houston, San Antonio and the Dallas/Fort Worth area, according to the company Web site. It collects scrap tires throughout Texas and is the exclusive supplier of scrap tires as fuel for cement kilns in the state, the Web site said.
Based in Pittsburgh, Liberty Tire recycles nearly 25 percent of the scrap tires generated in the U.S., according to its publicity. The company provides crumb rubber for a wide range of end-uses as well as playground surfacing, decorative mulch and tire-derived fuel.
There was no immediate word on whether Able Tire will continue to operate under its own name, or whether its former owner, Gary Humphreys, will continue to play a role in the business.
