HANNOVER, Germany (June 16, 2009)—Continental A.G. plans to close its machinery operations in Slovakia and concentrate all activities at its Hannover headquarters.
Conti-Machinery said it will close the former Matador Machinery operations at Puchov in Slovakia, affecting about 190 people.
A spokeswoman said Conti-Machinery is now concentrating on a one-site strategy, and has reversed its strategic plan to develop the Puchov site. She added that the move is a cost-saving measure taken in response to a 50 percent reduction in machinery sales.
As recently as February this year, Continental was intending to develop its operations at Puchov, moving as much manufacturing to the low-cost site as possible.
