TOLEDO, Ohio (June 8, 2009)—Titan Tire Corp. faces $24,500 in tentative fines from Occupational Health and Safety Administration Region 5 for alleged serious safety violations at its Bryan, Ohio, plant.
The violations—observed during OSHA inspections of the Bryan facility in November 2008, December 2008 and February 2009—include one case of an unguarded temporary floor opening, one case of unguarded machinery, and two violations of OSHA's General Duty Clause, which allows agency inspectors to make nonspecific citations.
Titan has filed a notice that it will contest the charges, said Jule Hovi, OSHA area director in Toledo. No meetings on this issue have yet been scheduled, Hovi said.
