FULLERTON, Calif. (May 28, 2009)—The Environmental Protection Agency has named Yokohama Tire Corp. a shipper partner in its SmartWay Transport Partnership program.
Yokohama earned this designation for shipping more than half of its products throughout the U.S. on SmartWay-certified transport carriers, Yokohama said.
This is Yokohama's second SmartWay recognition this year. In January the EPA verified Yokohama's RY617 steer tire, 703ZL drive tire and RY587MC2 trailer tire as meeting the program's low rolling-resistance criteria.
SmartWay is an EPA collaboration with the freight industry designed to increase energy efficiency while reducing greenhouse gases and air pollution.
The SmartWay Transport Partnership aims to achieve fuel savings of up to 150 million barrels of fuel per year and eliminate 33 million to 66 million metric tons of carbon dioxide and up to 200,000 tons of nitrogen oxide per year by 2012.
