LEVERKUSEN, Germany (May 14, 2009)—Lanxess India Private Ltd. plans to open a production site in India by early 2010 that will house rubber chemicals and ion exchange resins plants.
The Lanxess A.G. subsidiary will operate the facility in Jhagadia, in the Indian state of Gujarat. The company is investing more than $68 million in the site and will employ 230 workers at the site
The Jhagadia facility will be Lanxess' largest production operation in India and highlights its long-term commitment to the growing domestic market, said Joerg Strassburger, Lanxess India managing director.
The rubber chemicals operation—serving the Indian domestic and export markets—is being relocated from Thane, located in Maharashtra state. The equipment from the Thane plant has arrived at the Jhagadia location, and includes several reactors, storage tanks, and thousands of parts, such as pumps, filters, and pipes, Lanxess said.
In addition, the Lanxess plan to build a natural gas-based cogeneration plant to supply steam and electricity to the rubber chemicals and ion exchange resins plants.
