ROCKFORD, Ill. (May 12, 2009)—Global Resource Corp. said it has conducted a successful demonstration of its microwave technology to convert scrap tires into diesel fuel, natural gases and carbon ash.
The Mount Laurel, N.J.-based company showed off its Patriot-1 technology at its research facility in Rockford, Ill. Its process involves cutting up tires and other recyclable materials into 3-sq.-in. pieces and conveying them through microwave emitters which break them down into useful materials.
Global Resource said the closed-loop system eliminates gas emissions, and the lack of oxygen in the process prevents creation of either carbon monoxide or carbon dioxide.
The Patriot-1 process can be used to break down many different substances, but right now Global Resource is concentrating on scrap tires, according to CEO Eric Swain.
