BEAUMONT, Texas (May 8, 2009)—DuPont Performance Elastomers has said it is exiting the Hypalon and Acsium businesses, and a company spokeswoman confirmed that DuPont has decided to close its factory in Beaumont.
This is the company's only facility for making modified ethylene elastomers.
The factory will close by the end of June, and customers have been informed, said the spokeswoman.
Decommissioning work at the site will continue through August of this year followed by an extended period of dismantlement, DuPont said.
The company said 86 employees would be affected. DuPont said it is looking to find other jobs within the company for some of those workers.
DuPont said a lack of market demand and changing business conditions led to the shutdown.
