MELKSHAM, England (April 30, 2009)—Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. Europe Ltd. aims to cut by 4 percent the workforce at its plant in Melksham.
The company said it wants to reduce its workforce of 1,000 by between 30 and 50 jobs, mostly in the engineering and rubber-working departments. The firm has asked for voluntary departures.
The cuts are required because of the current poor economic climate and the firm's need to cut its costs to remain competitive, Cooper said.
