WASHINGTON (April 9, 2009)—President Obama has nominated Charles Hurley, CEO of the highway safety group Mothers Against Drunk Driving, to be administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Hurley has three decades of experience in the highway safety field, including former leadership positions at the National Safety Council and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the White House said.
Charles Cannon, Rubber Manufacturers Association president and CEO, said Hurley's nomination sends a strong signal that this administration shares the tire manufacturing industry's commitment to safety.
Hurley must be confirmed by the U.S. Senate. There was no immediate word on when his confirmation hearing would take place.
