LANCASTER COUNTY, S.C. (March 27, 2009)—Continental Tire North America Inc. has moved its headquarters to a 75,000-sq.ft., $11 million office complex in Lancaster County, about 12 miles from the old headquarters in Charlotte, N.C.
“Continental Tire has built a solid reputation by providing outstanding products throughout our 138-year history, and this move to South Carolina is just the next step in our ongoing effort to contribute to the North and South American markets,” said Matthias Schoenberg, Continental Tire North America CEO.
The new facility, on 11.5 acres in MacMillan Business Park in northern Lancaster County, houses 375 employees.
Conti has been based in Charlotte since 1994. Its present headquarters is next to its one-time tire plant. Conti earlier said it is keeping about 160 workers at the Charlotte facility for rubber mixing and warehousing activities.
The tire maker sold the 40-year-old facility in Charlotte last year to Philadelphia developer Patriot Equities L.P. for $29.4 million and is leasing back about 600,000 square feet. The firm has made various lease arrangements at the plant.
