OITA, Japan (March 26, 2009)—SunAllomer Ltd. has begun an expansion of high-rubber content polypropylene capacity at a plant in Oita.
The expansion is set to be complete by April 2010.
SunAllomer—a joint venture with LyondellBasell Industries, Showa Denko K.K. and Nippon Oil Corp.—said it will expand one polypropylene production line by 60,000 tons per year and will convert it to utilize LyondellBasell's Spheripol manufacturing process to reduce CO2 emissions by 12 percent and streamline plant operations.
Another line at the plant will be upgraded to produce high-rubber content polypropylene for "further product differentiation in niche applications," the company said.
SunAllomer said the new grades will be particularly beneficial for the food packaging and automotive markets.
