RED BANK, N.J. (March 17, 2009)— Ansell Healthcare has received a $1.57 million contract from the New York City Department of Health to supply more than 20 million Lifestyles condoms and packets of lubricants to organizations and venues in the city.
The health department is distributing about 1.5 million condoms monthly, at no cost to organizations, health clinics, advocacy groups, bars, restaurants, nail salons, nightclubs and prisons.
Thomas Frieden, commissioner of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, said the distribution program is a "sensation."
“Hundreds of community organizations are signing up to give out free condoms, many for the first time,” he said.
