GURGAON, India (March 9, 2009)—The PTL Enterprises Ltd. tire plant in Kalamassery, India, has re-opened after employers and unions agreed to end their dispute late March 4.
The two sides have not resolved all the issues under discussion, but negotiations will continue after the plant has re-opened.
The Kalamassery unit produces cross-ply commercial tires, primarily for Apollo Tyres Ltd.'s export market out of India. The lockout was imposed on Dec. 6 when violence broke out across the plant because of resistance from workers and the unions on the issue of increasing efficiency and capacity.
