LOS ANGELES (March 6, 2009) - Traxxas Off Road Championship Series (TORC) - the newly united short-course U.S. off-road racing series - has named Kumho its official tire.
As the supplier of the official tire of TORC, Kumho Tire USA Inc. will receive track signage, Web site ads and other promotional considerations and additional television coverage during race broadcasts, TORC said.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The TORC series unifies the sport of short-course off-road racing by setting a national schedule, obtaining sanctioning by the U.S. Auto Club, getting sponsors under one umbrella and securing the rights to stage events at sport´s most identifiable facilities - Crandon International Off-Road Raceway in Crandon, Wis., and Bark River International Raceway near Escanaba, Mich.
The principals of TORC also have assumed the equipment and manpower assets of the Midwest-based World Series of Off-Road Racing (WSORR) and is supported by the newly formed Professional Drivers Group.
TORC envisions holding eight races this season at Crandon, Bark River and tracks in Phoenix, Oshkosh, Wis., and Perris, Calif. The season is slated to start May 15 at Manzanita Speedway in Phoenix
Series sponsor Traxxas is a Plano, Texas-based maker of of hobby-class radio controlled cars, trucks, and boats.
Besides its role as official tire, Kumho Tire USA will supply tires to two drivers: Scott Douglas in the Pro 4x4 class and to Chad Hord in Pro Light 2WD class.
TORC´s Web site also lists Michelin North America Inc.´s BFGoodrich brand as a series´ supporter.
