FRANKFURT, Germany (Feb. 27, 2009)-Formula 3 Euro Series has extended its exclusive race tire contract with South Korea's Kumho Tire Co. Inc. for three more seasons.
Kumho has been the exclusive supplier since 2003 of the series, which will run 10 races this year at tracks in France, Germany, the Netherlands and Spain in support of the DTM German Touring Car Championship.
Formula 3 cars are single-seat, open-wheel racers powered by production-based four-cylinder 2-liter engines. Each race weekend features two races, each lasting a maximum of 40 minutes or 68 miles.
Competitors are limited to three sets of slick dry-weather and two sets of grooved wet-weather tires per race weekend, according to the series' technical regulations. In the 2008 season, Kumho supplied the teams with 8,000 slicks and about 1,500 wet weather tires, the organizers said.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
Kumho also is the official supplier of the Australian F3 Championship.
