KOCHIN, India (Feb. 27, 2009)-Apollo Tyres Ltd. said it wants to resume production of tires at the plant in Kalamassery in southern India.
The plant has been closed since Dec. 6 after management locked workers out of the plant. The plant is owned by PTL Enterprises, but makes truck tires for Apollo.
Apollo has said it wants to expand output from the plant to 98 metric tons a day from 89 tons. It also wants to remove the mixing equipment and move it to another site. The union does not want the machinery moved.
