DECATUR, Ala. (Feb. 25, 2009)—United Foam, a division of UFP Technologies Inc., has added equipment, improved its material selection, reconfigured its floor plan and become ISO 9001 and 14001 compliant at its Decatur plant.
United Foam has added polyurethane equipment to increase its ability to make foam packaging for electronic, industrial and consumer uses. The site also has new contour-cutting equipment to fabricate large shapes out of PU and polyethylene foams.
The additions have allowed United Foam to also add more materials to its selection, the firm said. The contour cutter allows it to handle more plank densities and sizes of polyethylene foams, and thus allows it to serve additional markets and uses in automotive, electronics packaging and deep-draw case inserts.
Another change, its reconfigured floor plan, allows United Foam to practice lean manufacturing. This has improved material flow, provided faster turnaround on projects and helped reduce material waste, United Foam said.
