HAMBURG, Germany (Feb. 19, 2009)—Dow Corning said a tire maker is testing tires that use a natural rubber tread made of silica/silane jointly by Dow Corning and Rhodia.
Three months ago the materials suppliers announced their intention to work together to create a silica/silane package, which works effectively with natural rubber. The aim was to work with each customer to develop a specific package of silicas and silanes that optimized for the customer's mixing and production processes.
Ultimately, the suppliers aim to sell the material for truck tire applications.
The name of the tire manufacturer testing the tires wasn't disclosed.
