WASHINGTON (Feb. 10, 2009)—BMW Motorsports has selected Goodyear's Dunlop brand as the official race tire supplier for its factory-supported GT2 team at the American Le Mans Series this year.
The move's been in the works for several months, as Rahal Letterman Racing—BMW's designated ALMS factory team—has been testing its M3 racers on Dunlop tires since December.
Dunlop race tires for ALMS are made by Dunlop Motorsports, a unit under Goodyear Dunlop Tyres U.K. Ltd., at a Goodyear Dunlop plant in Birmingham, England.
Goodyear did not specify what type of support staff or equipment it is committing to Rahal Letterman Racing but did say its trackside support will be limited to Rahal.
As many as a half dozen other teams have been testing on Dunlop race tires in the off-season. They will continue to go through and be supported by Dunlop Motorsports' North American importer/distributor, Vintage Tyres Ltd. of Hubbards, Nova Scotia.
