TUPELO, Miss. (Feb. 6, 2009)—Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour has signed a bill offering $19 million in incentives for Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. to maintain its manufacturing facility in Tupelo.
The package includes $7 million for a new building to allow Cooper to expand production in Tupelo; $6 million for a no-interest loan for Cooper to move equipment to Tupelo from its soon-to-close plant in Albany, Ga.; and $6 million in tax breaks.
A Cooper spokeswoman declined to comment on the incentives package, but said, “Tupelo will continue to be an important part of Cooper's future success.”
