AMSTERDAM, Netherlands (Jan. 26, 2009) — Sports equipment maker Head N.V. Group plans to close its U.S. manufacturing operation in Phoenix in early March and shift production to its factory in China.
The closure of Head Penn Racquet Sports will impact about 150 employees. While the official plant closure is March 5, some administrators are expected to remain at the Phoenix site for at least another month. The company did not say if those positions would remain in the U.S. after that.
Head also did not specify what will happen with the plant or equipment.
The firm has been producing tennis balls at the China factory since it opened in January 2007 and has been increasing volumes at the facility since that time.
