DENVER (Jan. 16, 2009)—Gates Corp. will close its Salt Lake City, Utah, distribution center, which services automotive aftermarket customers, in the summer.
Scott Burr, vice president of North American distribution and demand management, said Gates has made improvements in transportation and inventory management, which has allowed the company to provide excellent service and reduce its inventory.
About 42 employees will be impacted by the closure. The Denver-based company did not say how many will be laid off. The Salt Lake City center has been in operation since December 1991.
