WASHINGTON (Jan. 15, 2009)—The Rubber Manufacturers Association has canceled its annual meeting in April near St. Augustine, Fla., in reaction to the struggling economy, and instead plans to hold regional events for its members.
Recognizing its members have been imposing travel restrictions for employees to help cope with the economic downturn, the association polled them about forgoing the meeting at the Sawgrass Golf Resort and Spa in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., April 25-26, an RMA official said. The consensus was to cancel the affair.
The group now will hold a few smaller events that will offer easy access to its members, giving them the chance to network that the annual meeting provides, he said. The RMA hasn't concluded those plans yet.
The annual meeting typically draws a number of senior executives from member companies, who participate in association conferences and a speaker program. The RMA's Elastomer Products Group, made up of non-tire rubber product makers and associated companies, holds its annual meeting in conjunction with the overall event.
