DUNAUJVAROS, Hungary (Jan. 9, 2009)—Hankook Tire Co. Ltd.'s tire plant in Hungary, closed for a day as a result of the Russia-Ukraine natural gas dispute, re-opened Jan. 8 as gas supplies were restored.
The factory closed the day before when the local gas supplier FGSZ demanded all of its high-volume customers reduce their consumption dramatically. This move followed the dispute between Russia and the Ukraine over payment and consumption of gas supplies and the consequent shortage of gas in parts of central Europe.
A Hankook spokeswoman said Jan. 8 authorities lifted the restriction on Hankook and other “category 2” customers.
