PARIS (Jan. 8, 2009) -Michelin has postponed until 2010 the next edition of its Challenge Bibendum environmental road mobility gathering, citing the "depth of the current economic crisis" as its reason.
This year's Challenge Bibendum was scheduled to take place in April in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Michelin said it plans to stage the 2010 event in Rio as well.
Michelin said the decision takes into account the increasing financial constraints of several of Challenge Bibendum's traditional partners. Many indicated to Michelin they would be unable to participate to the extent that they have done in the past.
Michelin said its Challenge Bibendum organizing team will propose throughout 2009 a series of different initiatives to our partners to stimulate ongoing debates on the future of road mobility.
The last Challenge Bibendum was November 2007 in Shanghai.
