ROME, Ga. (Dec. 22, 2008) - Pirelli Tire North America Inc. (PTNA) will be the official tire supplier and title sponsor of the 2009 and 2010 Drivers Cup USA.
The series, which was founded by Competent Motorsport L.L.C., provides three-day weekend racing and education programs at racetracks across the U.S. Participating drivers will race in their own Porsche GT3, 996 and 997 cup cars during the events and benefit from one-on-one professional coaching, racing strategy sessions, practice time and sprint races.
"This unique blend of racing and education produces drivers that enjoy their on-track experience with competence," said Greg Franz, executive director of Drivers Cup USA.
Pirelli will supply participating drivers with its P Zero racing slicks and wet racing tires. Tires for the race will be manufactured at the tire maker's plant in Turkey.
"This is an exciting time for PTNA Motorsport as we continue our strategy of growth and development and are now partnered with some of the most important series in North America, including the VW TDI Cup, Ferrari Challenge, WRC, Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series and now Pirelli Drivers Cup USA," said Rafael Navarro, director of motorsport and media communications for PTNA.
Yokohama Tire Corp. was the title sponsor for the Drivers Cup USA in 2007 and 2008.
