NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Dec. 19, 2008)—Bridgestone/Firestone will be the title sponsor of the National Hockey League Winter Classic 2009 game Jan. 1 at Wrigley Field in Chicago.
The Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks will meet for the second regular season outdoor NHL game in the U.S. and the third regular season outdoor game in the league's history.
As the event's title sponsor, the Nashville-based tire maker's Bridgestone-brand logo will be incorporated into the official game and event mark. BFS also will benefit from on-air title broadcast rights from all NHL broadcast partners; branded promotion in NBC's programming; camera-visible dasherboard placements of the Bridgestone logo; in-arena video spots and announcements; and integration of the Bridgestone brand in NHL videos, radio broadcasts and online and printed materials, the company said.
BFS' multi-year agreement with the NHL includes Bridgestone brand exposure during NHL events such as the Stanley Cup playoffs, the entry draft and the NHL All-Star Game.
