CHARDON, Ohio (Nov. 20, 2008) – Rhein Chemie Corp. said it is removing 827,590 pounds of greenhouse gases from the environment, cutting its energy consumption by nearly 56 percent, and reducing its energy cots by more than $45,000 via green initiatives.
The firm projects include replacing the plant's lighting system with high-bay fluorescent fixtures that use electronic ballasts; and replacing machines that were heated and cooled using water with others that use an electric, closed-loop system for heating and cooling, netting a water consumption reduction of 200,000 gallons per month.
The Lanxess Deutschland GmbH subsidiary also is keeping 3,000 gallons of oil out of landfills a year by recycling waste oil.
The parent company last week said it intends to lower its greenhouse gas emissions in Germany by about 80 percent by 2012.
