FINDLAY, Ohio (Nov. 3, 2008)—Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. and the union local at the firm's Findlay tire plant have agreed to extend the current labor contract three weeks beyond its Oct. 31 expiration date so talks can continue.
The contract with United Steelworkers Local 207L will expire Nov. 21, 2008 at midnight. Cooper said production will continue at the facility during the extension period.
Local 207L President Rod Nelson said the two sides are talking candidly and seeking a conclusion that balances the company workers needs. Findlay Plant Manager Jack Hamilton echoed those remarks, but also stated the firm's recent decision to study the operations at all its plants—with the probability that one will close—will be “a factor for consideration in the final agreement.”
