LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Oct. 14, 2008) — Chad Smith and Evan Perkins, second-year students in the Ferris State University Rubber Program, have received $1,000 scholarships from Rhein Chemie Corp.
The scholarships were awarded on a basis of academic performance, financial need and dedication to the rubber industry. Rhein Chemie presented plaques to the students representing the awards this afternoon at the firm's booth at the mini-expo during the ACS Rubber Division meeting in Louisville.
Jeff Immel of Rhein Chemie said the company has hired as many as five graduates of Ferris State's rubber program, and they arrive at work ready to perform. "We've had great success with our relationship with Ferris State," he said.
Rhein Chemie gives out four $1,000 scholarships a year to Ferris State and is building a $10,000 endowment for the school.
