GREENVILLE, S.C. (Sept. 24, 2008) — The AARP has named Michelin North America Inc. one of its 2008 best employers for workers age 50 and older.
Greenville-based Michelin is the only tire maker on the list of 50 companies, coming in at No. 43. This is the third time the company has been featured on list, also appearing in 2005 and 2007.
Michelin provides a number of programs for workers who are nearing retirement, such as retirement-preparation seminars and options for maintaining benefits on a reduced work schedule. Also, 35 percent of Michelin's employees are age 50 or older, and the average tenure of employees in that age range is 24 years, the AARP said.
The AARP will hold a dinner Oct. 7 in Chicago to recognize the companies on the list. It also will publish the list in its November-December issue of the AARP magazine.
